World Immunization Week (April 24-30) brings together a diverse coalition of partners to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. Immunization saves millions of lives every year, and it is recognized widely as one of the world’s most successful and cost-effective health interventions. However, there are still nearly 20 million unvaccinated and under-vaccinated children in the world today.

Covid-19 has shown that disease outbreaks anywhere can be a threat everywhere.

COVID-19 is sobering proof of how in today’s highly interconnected world, disease outbreaks anywhere can be a threat everywhere. When we don’t have the protective shield of immunization, it leaves many of us at risk.

In countries with weaker health systems, such outbreaks can have an even more devastating impact – both within and beyond national borders. Strengthening health systems has never been more important.
